Safeguards & Security

The fundamental aspects of an effective protection program are to detect a threat to a target, assess that threat, and respond to it before the aggressor completes his intended action. In order to accomplish this, a protection strategy must be designed with the target in mind.

Gregg Protection’s safeguards and security approach is to design a protection programs that is tailor made for the specific target, threat and customer. This concept is based on two independent but related principals. Those principals are layered protection and integrated protection.

Layered protection starts at the boundary of a facility or building and becomes increasingly complex to thwart an aggressor from closing in on the target. For example, in a typical defense manufacturing or production facility, protection starts at the property line with “No Trespassing” signs posted at specified intervals. The next layer of protection is a physical barrier, such as a fence topped with barbed wire. The third layer is an intrusion assessment and detection system in conjunction with a clear zone and patrols. The fourth layer is a substantially constructed building that resists penetration. The building may have additional electronic detection equipment, armed security officers, and/or activated barrier technology.

In addition to layered protection, an integrated protection program provides depth. Examples would include a personnel security program, a security culture program, or a program to make sure protection measures are fully sustainable. All of these elements must complement one another so that if one element fails, the remaining safeguards prevent the target from being compromised.

Taken individually or collectively, all of these methods provide customers with tools to evaluate their security systems effectiveness. Management can be informed of the risks. Targets can be prioritized. Short- and long-term corrective actions can be identified, funded, and implemented. When the highest threat is mitigated, management can focus on the next highest, and so on down the line.
